AI decodes the language of genes: A new look inside the “control center” of plants

An international research team led by Forschungszentrum Jülich and the IPK Leibniz Institute has developed an artificial intelligence model that predicts where regulatory proteins dock onto plant DNA to switch genes on and off – opening new ways to understand how genetic variation shapes crop performance.

Antiviral Molecules in Bacteria

Researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich, in collaboration with partners from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, as well as from Marburg and Zurich, have shed light on the mechanism of action of the natural compound daunorubicin. The team was able to demonstrate how the molecule prevents the replication of bacteriophages—viruses that infect bacteria.

AI identifies scientific novelty: Jülich team wins international challenge

A research team from Forschungszentrum Jülich has won the international “Metascience Novelty Indicators Challenge”. The scientists at Juelichat Jülich Systems Analysis Systems Analysis developed a method that enables artificial intelligence to assess the novelty of scientific publications.

Our 3 strategic research priorities

Information

The priority of information combines Jülich research in three areas: simulation and data science in high-performance-computing (HPC), brain research, and research on bio- and nanoelectronic information technologies of the future. Quantum technologies are another priority at Jülich.

Energy

Jülich energy research concentrates on an energy system based on renewable energy. Scientists research technologies on all scales – from the atomic level right up to industrial innovations – covering the entire value chain from basic to applied research.

Bioeconomy

The sustainable bioeconomy is a biobased circular economy that does away with fossil resources and utilizes renewable resources instead. Scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing new value creation processes.
