Increasingly dry summers, alongside a rise in heavy rainfall events, are presenting us with new challenges in our management of water resources. To mark World Water Day on 22 March, we spoke to Prof. Dr. Stefan Kollet and Dr. Frank Herrmann from the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences – Agrosphere.

A new momentum microscope at Forschungszentrum Jülich makes electrons and their properties in solids visible. The instrument, developed entirely in Jülich, provides unprecedentedly insights into materials – and works significantly more effective than previous systems.

Using data from the European telescope network LOFAR, researchers have produced the most comprehensive radio map of the Universe to date. It shows 13.7 million cosmic radio sources and provides the most complete picture yet of active galaxies.
