Productive Bacteria, Sustainable Technology

First "Jülich Biotech Day" at Forschungszentrum Jülich

Jülich/Düsseldorf, 4 October 2012 – "White biotechnology" is concerned with using bacteria as miniature factories and enzymes as environmentally friendly production helpers. This is one of the priority topics of microbiologists, molecular biologists, biochemists and chemists at Forschungszentrum Jülich and Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. The researchers aim to better understand and selectively modify the metabolic activities of microorganisms and the properties of enzymes. They intend to produce chemicals, feed additives and pharmaceuticals from renewable raw materials. The "Jülich Biotech Day", taking place at Forschungszentrum Jülich on 5 October, offers scientists and representatives from industry the opportunity to gain insights into the current state of research and industrial application.
