Water Monitor for Germany Launched Online

Interactive online tool provided by Forschungszentrum Jülich shows when farmers and gardeners should water their plants

Jülich, 3 November 2021 – Prolonged periods of drought or heavy rain have become increasingly common in recent years in many countries, including Germany. Periods of drought, such as that witnessed in summer 2020, create challenges for farmers and gardeners in providing sufficient water for their plants. Forschungszentrum Jülich’s water monitor can provide important information in this regard. Farmers and amateur gardeners can visit www.wasser-monitor.de to find out, to an accuracy of around 600 metres, if there is a sufficient store of water in the soil for their plants or if they need to fill their watering cans. The new online tool is based on scientific simulations and is updated daily with data for the next nine days.
