As a rule, the required language skills are tested during the interview (e.g. in the form of a presentation or during the interview itself). If you have language certificates that prove your skills, please submit them with your application.

In addition to the Jülich site, where most of our employees work, Forschungszentrum has other, smaller external sites. These include Berlin, Rostock, Garching, Münster, Düsseldorf, Erlangen-Nürnberg and Bonn. If a job advertisement is for one of these sites, it will be explicitly stated in the job advertisement.

In most cases, speculative applications are not worthwhile, as there are usually very specific requirements for positions at Forschungszentrum Jülich. We therefore advise you to apply for one of our many current vacancies, indicating the respective reference number.

For work placements, bachelor's and master's dissertations, or doctoral researcher positions, however, speculative applications can be submitted if you are unable to find a suitable position on the list of current vacancies. Contact the institute or division you would like to work in and ask about the application procedure. You can also send your application documents directly to the institute where you would like to write your doctoral thesis.

Applications to Forschungszentrum Jülich should be submitted using our online application system. Postal applications must include your email address and will only be excepted in exceptional cases. In such cases, we will transfer your application to our online application system and send your documents back to you.

Every application should consist of a cover letter, a current CV and copies of all relevant degrees, certificates, proof of further education or continuing professional development, etc.

Applications for some positions (particularly scientific positions) are accepted in English.

You may apply for more than one position, as long as these positions do not differ significantly from one other. Please submit a separate online application for each individual position.

All vacancies published on the Internet are currently valid. Application deadlines for vacancies will be given in the respective job advertisement on our website. In such cases, no applications will be accepted after this deadline. If there is no application deadline given in the job advertisement, we recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible.

The duration of the application process varies depending on the position advertised as each individual application is carefully evaluated by those responsible. We will inform you regularly by email about the current status of your application and you will receive information once the selection process has been completed. If you wish to delete your application, please inform the recruiter responsible. You will find their contact details in the confirmation of receipt, which received after successfully submitting your application via our online system.

When approaching the main entrance, leave the roundabout at the first exit and you will reach the visitor's car park. After you have registered at the visitors' reception, you can drive onto campus and park your car in one of the designated parking spaces.''

If you have a job interview on the Jülich campus, you will need to register at visitors' services at the main entrance. You will need a valid passport or national identity card. You will also need to show either a printout of your invitation to an interview or a digital copy saved on your smartphone. You will then receive a visitor ID card, which you must return when you leave the premises.

Waiting times for registration tend to be longer between 08:00 and 12:00. You should therefore allow at least 15 to 20 minutes to register at the visitors' reception and make your way to the respective building.

You will receive information regarding the building and room number in the invitation to interview. At the visitors' reception, you will be given a map of the campus (site plan), which shows all buildings at Forschungszentrum Jülich and their respective building numbers. You might find it helpful to download the document beforehand in order to acquaint yourself with the route that you will have to take: How to reach us.

There is a large canteen (Seecasino; building 04.1) right next to the lake, which is open for lunch between 11:00 and 13:30. The canteen offers set dishes and side orders, as well as salads and desserts. Cash payments are not possible in the canteen. Visitors must use the machine in the entrance area to obtain a chip card in order to buy something to eat or to drink.

Adjacent to the canteen is a shop, where you can also buy sandwiches, beverages and other snacks. The shop is open from 07:30 to 14:30 (14:00 on Friday). You can use cash to purchase snacks from the vending machines in the entrance area to the Seecasino.

Applicants who are invited to an interview will receive detailed information regarding the reimbursement of travel expenses in accordance with the German Travel Expenses Act.
