World Record: Jülich Fuel Cell achieves 70,000 hours of continuous operation and counting

Jülich, 22nd October, 2015 – Scientists at the IEK-3 have established a new world record: Their solid oxide fuel cell stack recently surpassed eight years – or 70,000 hours – of continuous operation. That is longer than any other fuel cell utilizing ceramic cells has ever attained. Given their high energy efficiency, solid oxide fuel cells are ideal for households and businesses, but also large commerical vehicles, such as heavy goods trucks, trains and ships. Federal Minister for Research Thomas Rachel congratulated the Jülich researchers for their achievement of the new record.
