Environmental processes and technologies
Measurements of environmental variables are essential to improve the understanding of key processes in the terrestrial environment. This improved understanding should lead to improved predictive capability of our terrestrial models and a more sustainable use of the natural resources soil, water and atmosphere.
The IBG-3 institute is deeply involved in environmental monitoring through the development and application of hydrogeophysical measurement and inversion techniques and the operation of long-term observation platforms such as TERENO, ICOS and eLTER. The acquired measurements provide insights in the spatial and temporal variability of terrestrial processes at spatial scales ranging from soil columns to catchments and temporal scales ranging from minutes to years.
