Sven Jovanovic studied chemistry at RWTH Aachen university with a specialization in spectroscopy and catalysis. He conducted his PhD research at the IET-1, formally known as IEK-9, in the Forschungszentrum Jülich under supervision of Prof. Josef Granwehr and Dr. Peter Jakes. There, he developed an in operando setup for the NMR study of the electrolytic CO2 reduction in aqueous media, and utilized it to investigate the changes in electrolyte chemistry during electrolysis. Additionally, he performed Raman microscopy studies on the degradation of silver gas diffusion electrodes after operation in a CO2 electrolysis cell. After his PhD, he continued his work as a postdoc at the IET-1, where he utilized MAS and PFG NMR for the study of solid state and polymer battery electrolytes as well as redox active organic materials, while supporting new developments in the field of in operando NMR. Currently, he is working on NMR and Raman investigations of ionomers and catalysts for PEM and AEM water electrolysis applications.
