Research

The “Micro Scale Bioengineering Group” (µscale) is part of the Institute IBG1: Biotechnology. Our aim is to develop cutting-edge microfluidic systems to study prokaryotic microorganisms on a single cell level. These Lab-on-a-Chip´s in combination with automated high resolution live cell imaging enable fascinating research with respect to, productivity, life time, stress influence, population heterogeneity etc. In order to answer questions in the field of Systems Biotechnology, work is carried out in close cooperation with groups from multidisciplinary fields, e.g., "Bioprocesses and Bioanalytics", "Biocatalysis and Biosensors", “Population Heterogeneity”, "Amino Acids and Cell Wall" and "Simulation and Modeling".
