ZEA-2 produces Layout for Quantum Computer Chip

Researchers from ZEA-2 have produced a layout of a prototype chip for future quantum computers.

A particular challenge for the researchers is that the chips need to be operational at temperatures close to absolute zero (-273 °C) with power consumption of just a few milliwatts. Initial tests are to begin in September 2018. The research is being conducted as part of the Scalable Solid State Quantum Computing project, which aims to establish the preconditions for future scalable multi-qubit systems. The project is to receive € 6 million in funding from the Helmholtz Association within the scope of the Initiative and Networking Fund.fonds.
