POF Period 2021-2027
As a member of the Helmholtz Association, the institute conducts programmatic research, which is mainly defined within the HGF Program Natural, Artificial and Cognitive Information Processing for the period 2021 – 2027. Our main partners in this program are Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (HZB) and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). The Program has a set of five specific topics detailing its overarching aims for the fundamental improvement of energy-efficient, novel computing concepts. The Peter Grünberg Institute is involved in three of them, together with our internal and external partners: Quantum Materials, Quantum Computing and Neuromorphic Computing.
These research topics correspond, for the most part, to the PGI research areas. Nevertheless, the "Software and Systems" area supplements the strategy established from materials through to devices and systems.
Participation in Other HGF Programmes
- PGI-4, in combination with the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science, takes part in the POF programme From Matter to Materials and Life of the research area Matter.
- PGI-5, in combination with the Ernst Ruska-Centre for Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Electrons, takes part in the programme Materials Systems Engineering through the development of a unified digital materials characterization platform.
- PGI-6 takes part in the POF programme Matter and Technologies in the Research Area Matter.
