IAS-5/INM-9 drug design team was a recipient of a prestigious Volkswagen Stiftung grant for developing antiviral therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2

June 30, 2021 - IAS-5/INM-9 drug design team in collaboration with other German groups has been awarded with a grant from the Volkswagen Foundation for the research in the development of novel antiviral therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2.

The Volkswagen Foundation is strengthening application-oriented drug research in Germany with around 7 million euros: it is funding 12 projects that are developing antiviral therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses. One of the funded proposals is from our Institute! The PIs are Prof. Dr. Giulia Rossetti, Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH; Prof. Dr. Stefan Knapp, Universitätsklinikum Frankfurt; Prof. Dr. Bernhard Lüscher, RWTH Aachen, Dr. Patricia Korn, Uniklinik RWTH Aachen; Prof. Dr. Andreas Gerhard Ladurner, Universität München. Title: "SARS-CoV-2 non-structural protein nsP3 macrodomain and viral replication: functional characterization and inhibitor screening".
