The "Accademia delle Scienze dell'Istituto di Bologna" (

) is an institution founded in 1690 to bring together scientists working in the different branches of knowledge, divided into "Physical Sciences" and "Moral Sciences". Since then, the Academy has continued its activities and today organizes events open to the public on topics of scientific and general interest proposed by the Members. The Members are appointed for their scientific merits, which are certified in the "parchment" that is given to them. In the case of Prof. Carloni, who was appointed not Resident Correspondent Member in the Physical Sciences Class (Biological Sciences Section), his important and substantial contributions to the development and advancement of computational biology were considered.
