BrainPET-7T

The aim of the BrainPET-7T project: to develop a new generation of UHF-MRI compatible advanced PET inserts for the specific purpose of neuroimaging, which can be licensed to a company for market launch upon completion of the project.

Using the latest detector and manufacturing technologies, as well as an improved system design, the PET insert will have a sensitivity that exceeds current solutions by a factor of 3 to 4, with a detection efficiency of more than 10%. The use of digital SiPM, a scintillation detector material with excellent time resolving power in the range of 400 to 500 ps, as well as the ability to measure depth, will enable a significant increase in homogeneous image resolution with 1.5 to 2.5 mm voxel size. The latter means a 20-fold reduction in voxel volume can be achieved with the whole-body PET detector system.
