V5 LoRa

The LoRa Node (or sensor unit) hosts the sensors and communicates with the gateway. Most time it is in sleep modus to save energy.

The LoRa Gateway acts as a relay station that passes data from sensor devices to the LoRa server, where it can be processed by the LoRa application software.

The LoRa Server stores information about the network and provides a link to other networks. Each network only has one central LoRa server. An important task of the LoRa server is to initiate the wireless links within the network.

The LoRa CPA (Control Panel Application) is a software to receive, decode, answer, visualize and export the data packets from the wireless sensor network.

  • The sensor units are connected to the LoRa-WAN network via a gateway station. This gateway station consists of a LoRa modem (concentrator) and a Linux system (RaspberryPi).
  • The “Packet Forwarder” service runs on this computer and transfers incoming packets from the Concentrator to the LoRaWAN stack via UDP (LoRa Server)
  • The LoRa stack now processes the data packets further and sends it to the SoilNetCPA (Application software) using MQTT.
  • Communication in the other direction is analogous.
