Innovative technology for measuring the quality of common beans
License agreement between IBG-2 and the vegetable breeding company van Waveren. New software and imaging setup from the 'Shape & Color' project are revolutionizing quality assessment in agriculture.

The company van Waveren has signed a license agreement with the research institute IBG-2 of the Jülich Research Center to use innovative technologies for the objective and automated assessment of quality parameters in bean breeding. The specially designed imaging setup and the software enable a precise analysis of the shape and color properties of green or yellow beans, which previously could only be scored manually by experts. This technology, developed as part of the 'Shape & Color' project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, shows how innovative approaches for plant measurement (also referred to as phenotyping) can significantly improve quality assurance and efficiency in plant breeding, thus contributing to a successful bioeconomy.
