Jülich Plant Science Seminar (JPSS) – Dr. Richard Poiré, Dr. Frederike Stock, Dr. Tim Brown - A cross-section of capabilities at the Australian Plant Phenomics Facility - From seeds to plants to fields
Einladung zum Jülicher Pflanzenwissenschaftlichen Seminar (JPSS) - Dr. Richard Poiré, Dr. Frederike Stock, Dr. Tim Brown
Abstract: The government-funded Australian Plant Phenomics Facility (APPF) operates across three nodes at the University of Adelaide, CSIRO Black Mountain and the Australian National University. We provide state-of-the-art high-throughput phenotyping infrastructure, ranging from precision-controlled growth facilities capable of simulating climate change to greenhouse-based high-throughput imaging platforms for forward genetic studies, X-Ray CT and field phenotyping tools, including ground-based vehicles and aerial phenotyping platforms. APPF has expertise in a wide range of disciplines, including plant physiology, mechatronics engineering, statistics, and machine learning to software engineering.
In this talk, we will provide an overview of APPF’s national capabilities and discuss ongoing work at APPF ANU to develop novel capabilities such as 3D phenotyping.
We will also cover ongoing work to create open-source solutions for common phenotyping challenges such as data and image capture, visualisation and processing, as well as work on the Australian Scalable Drone Cloud, a 3-year project to create an open national infrastructure platform for processing, analysis, visualisation and FAIR publishing of drone data and analysis pipeline.
Following the talks, there is the chance to meet the colleagues for further discussion and exchange in person. If you are interested, please contact the inviting scientist Dr. Hendrik Poorter in advance (h.poorter@fz-juelich.de).
