Die Abteilung Kommunikationssysteme und -services ist für die Planung, die Realisierung und den Betrieb der campusweiten Kommunikationsnetze des Forschungszentrums sowie für die Anbindung an externe Netze zuständig. Sie stellt Kommunikationsdienste und -anwendungen bereit und nimmt zentrale Aufgaben im IT-Sicherheitsprozess des Forschungszentrums wahr.

Die Abteilung gliedert sich in zwei Operation and Development Teams (ODTs):
