Prize

Casey Paquola Receives “For Women in Science Award”

Dr. Casey Paquola will be honored with the “For Women in Science” award. The computational neuroscientist from Forschungszentrum Jülich is one of four early-career researchers to receive the €25,000 prize this year, awarded by L’Oréal, the German UNESCO Commission, and the German Humboldt Network.

Plant research

How plants control microorganisms at their roots

Plants release part of the carbon they capture through photosynthesis into the soil via their roots. This provides food for microorganisms that play a key role in plant health and growth. Researchers from the University of Bonn, Forschungszentrum Jülich and partners have now explored how this exchange works. Their findings have been published in Nature Communications.

More than 20,000 curious guests flocked to the nearly two-square-kilometer grounds of Forschungszentrum Jülich last Sunday. For Open Day, one of Europe's largest research sites opened its doors and offered exciting insights into science and technology.

Information

The priority of information combines Jülich research in three areas: simulation and data science in high-performance-computing (HPC), brain research, and research on bio- and nanoelectronic information technologies of the future. Quantum technologies are another priority at Jülich.

Energy

Jülich energy research concentrates on an energy system based on renewable energy. Scientists research technologies on all scales – from the atomic level right up to industrial innovations – covering the entire value chain from basic to applied research.

Bioeconomy

The sustainable bioeconomy is a biobased circular economy that does away with fossil resources and utilizes renewable resources instead. Scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing new value creation processes.
