PET imaging enables to non-invasively visualize the structure, function, wiring and chemistry of the human brain.

As imaging tools radiotracers are applied which allow to detect small alterations at the molecular level. Function and dysfunction in the human brain is associated with up- or downregulation of receptor systems and enzyme activity or the appearance of protein aggregates in Alzheimer’s disease. A focus in Jülich is the clinical diagnosis of gliomas. PET imaging using (2-[18F]fluoroethyl)-L-tyrosine provides additional information with respect to

delineation of tumor extent, the differentiation of treatment-related effects from tumor progression and for treatment monitoring.
