Research topic: Analysis of the molecular and architectonic organization of the brain:

Analysis of the molecular and architectonic organization of the cerebral cortex of humans, non-human primates and laboratory animals, including transgenic animal models of neurological and psychiatric diseases.

My main goal is to understand the cyto- and receptorarchitectonic foundations of cortical segregation as well as the interaction between cortical regions in the healthy and diseased brain. The focus is on receptors as they form the molecular basis for the functional specificity and circuit organization of each cortical and subcortical unit. I am particularly interested in the effect of depression on the structure and function of the cingulate cortex. In addition, I investigate language-related regions to show their specific transmitter-receptor organization in comparison to other neuronal networks.
