Permeation Test Facility

The permeation properties of membranes can be examined in a permeation test facility. To this end, the membranes are heated to temperatures between 600 °C and 1000 °C in a purpose-built recipient and exposed to a feed gas (e.g. a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen). The permeate flow across the membrane is conducted into a mass spectrometer ont he opposite side by means of a sweep gas, and then analysed. In so doing, the permeation through the membrane can be calculated.

The permeation test facility can be operated from room temperature to 1000 °C and at pressures from 0 bar to 40 bars. At pressures above atmospheric pressure, the operating temperature is limited to a maximum of 350 °C. The membranes studied can be exposed to a variety of gases, e.g. synthetic air, N2, O2, Ar, He, Ar/H2 and CO2. The gas flows can also be wetted at the same time.
