Information

In the research area of Information, scientists investigate how information are processed in biological and technical systems. The focus lies on brain research, basic research for future information technologies, super and quantum computing. Questions in materials science, solid-state physics and chemistry, biology and soft matter are also part of this research area.

One focus lies on the diagnosis and healing of neurological diseases, structural and molecular organisation and brain development. For this, among other things, imaging methods are (further) developed at ZEA-1.

A second very important focus is the development of new methods for understanding material properties at the atomic level, with a particular emphasis on ultra-high-resolution microscopy techniques. These include scanning tunnelling microscopy, transmission electron microscopy.
