Great Opportunities for “Green” Hydrogen from West Africa

Jülich/Berlin, 20 May 2021 – The ambitious project began almost a year ago: H2Atlas-Africa aims to determine the potential in West and Southern Africa for the sustainable production of hydrogen using renewables. In the long term, this could see Africa becoming a successful producer and exporter of hydrogen for a net-zero energy supply of the future. In Berlin, German Research Minister Anja Karliczek presented the project's first findings together with Dr. Solomon Agbo, the Jülich scientist responsible for coordinating the project. An interactive hydrogen tool was also launched at the event. The online tool illustrates the results of the project for the individual regions and is continuously updated as soon as new data becomes available.
