2023 Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM) scientific retreat

On the 17th and 18th of October members of INM-4 took part in the annual Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM) scientific retreat.

The aim of the retreat was to facilitate an exchange of ideas and information across institute areas with a view towards identifying cooperation opportunities.

Hosted by Dr Wieland Worthoff, INM-4 held one of the tutorial sessions on the first day. Dr Jörg Felder opened the MR Imaging Session with a talk on the basics of MR and how to translate those principles into an imaging technology. Following an interesting and informative discussion, Dr. Patricia Pais-Roldán and Dr. Fabian Küppers (also from INM-4) expanded the theme by presenting their state-of-the-art work on functional MRI with a focus on layer specific fMRI which can be achieved using our in-house developed high-resolution EPIK sequence. The day continued with a lab tour of the MRI systems at the Forschungszentrum Jülich and a talk by Prof. Langen (INM-4) on the basics of PET imaging and amino acid PET in brain tumour diagnostics.

During the poster sessions and spotlight talks, 12 of our INM- 4 researchers had the opportunity to present their work, reflecting the versatile background of INM-4’s current research topics within the fields of PET technology, quantitative MR, MR sequence design, functional MRI, preclinical animal studies and ML/DL applications to neuroimaging data.
