Top Poster Award

24th November 2020

Dr Philipp Lohmann and scientists from INM and the University Hospital of Cologne have recently been selected for a ‘Top Poster Award’ during the 25th Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO), which was held virtually. Seven-hundred posters were judged by a panel of experts who took into account, most importantly, the science and the overall impact of the work. Judges remarked that the poster, and the work it represents, certainly contributed to the scientific excellence of the meeting.

The poster outlined the potential of combined O-(2-[18F]fluoroethyl)-L-tyrosine (FET) PET/MRI radiomics for the non-invasive prediction of the O6-methylguanine-DNA methyl-transferase (MGMT) promoter methylation status in brain tumour patients, which is an important prognostic biomarker. Radiomics is a subdiscipline of artificial intelligence that aims to generate predictive or prognostic mathematical models from quantitative image features. The developed radiomics model allows the prediction of the important biomarker MGMT based on preoperative neuroimaging, which otherwise requires a biopsy.

The team now looks forward to attending the meeting in 2021 which will be held in Boston, Massachusetts.
