In this collaborative paper with the University of Turku and Turku University Hospital, this paper is a review of the past and current state-of-the-art developments in attenuation and scatter correction approaches for hybrid positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging.

The paper describes the current status of the methodological advances for producing accurate attenuation and scatter corrections on PET/MR systems, along with emerging clinical and research applications.

Future prospects relating to the potential benefits of accurate data corrections in clinical PET-MR are also discussed.
