ESA Fire-CCI

ESA Fire-CCI

The ESA Fire CCI project focuses on the development of long time series of burned area constructed from multi sensor satellite data. The ESA Fire CCI project is part of the Climate Change Initiative (CCI) of the European Space Agency (ESA). As a project partner, the IEK-8 contributes to the exploration and definition of user requirements and the evaluation of the merged multi sensor product. Burned area data are, among others, used to estimate emissions of trace species and aerosols produced from forest and savannah fires. These emission estimates are an important input for the definition of the boundary conditions in global chemistry models. The University of Alcalá (UAH), Spain, coordinates the ESA Fire-CCI project.
