Information Infrastructure
We develop, maintain information services for the resarch communities. We follow an approach of research data-aware information engineering by integration knowledge of research data management practices into the design and development of information systems. Our services enhance collaboration and data sharing amongst resarchers and infomration engineners through which we improve the overall quality and impact of data stewardship and thereby of research outcomes.
Helmholtz Knowledge Graph

The Helmholtz Knowledge Graph (Helmholtz KG) is an innovative project developed collaboratively within the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC). This initiative systematically collects metadata from diverse sources across the Helmholtz Association, expertly comparing, integrating, and harmonizing it to address the challenges of data siloing and heterogeneity. Our goal is to enhance the coherence and interconnectivity of this expansive data ecosystem.
By applying advanced logic, reasoning, and machine learning techniques, we clean and curate the graph data—disambiguating records, inferring data types, resolving identities, and linking previously isolated information. The Helmholtz KG not only deepens our understanding but also contributes to a more integrated and insightful research landscape.

PIDA: Persistent identifiers for semantic artifacts

PIDA is a free service that provides unique persistent URLs (PURLs) for use as internationalized resource identifiers (IRIs) in semantic artifacts such as glossaries, thesauri, ontologies, and knowledge graphs. By using PIDA, information engineers and ontology developers can ensure that entities within these artifacts are consistently and unambiguously identified and referenced across the web.
PIDA enhances the functionality of traditional PURL services by offering added features, including robust security measures, detailed usage statistics, regular health checks of registered data, and dedicated user support. These features ensure reliable, effective performance, empowering users to confidently develop and manage complex semantic data.
