Schöntal Symposium on Dislocation-based Plasticity

We are pleased to announce the next Schöntal Symposium held at the monastery Bad Schöntal in Germany from 14 - 19 April 2024. The focus of the symposium is on Dislocation-based Plasticity and related topics. The symposium will feature thematic lectures but will mainly be a forum for intense discussions, knowledge exchange and networking within the research community concerned with dislocations, their modeling, experimental observations, and theoretical assessment.

The symposium has its origins in the research group FOR1650 funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Due to its unique nature and format which facilitates and invigorates extensive discussions, the symposium has been regarded very highly by scientists in the community. After three successful events organized under the aegis of the research group FOR1650, the Symposium will be carried forward as an independent conference.

Registration is now closed. If you have issues with your invoice or payment, please contact office.ias-9@fz-juelich.de

Programm

Every day of the symposium will focus on one topic related to dislocation-based plasticity. The programm is currently being put together and will be posted in due time.
Possible topics are:

  • Current state and challenges in developing a physical based continuum theory of dislocations
  • Discrete-continuum transitioning of dislocation behavior
  • Synergies between experiments and simulations
  • Atomistic and mesoscale modeling
  • Analysis and visualization of dislocations
  • Dislocations and interfaces
