JuDocs Ceremony 2019

Seecasino, Forschungszentrum Jülich - 7 September 2019

In addition to awarding the Excellence Prizes, Forschungszentrum Jülich honoured a total of 50 doctoral researchers at the 2019 JuDocs event. In his address, Chairman of the Board of Directors Prof. Wolfgang Marquardt reminded the successful doctoral candidates of the great social responsibility that rests with science. “It is a crucial task for you as scientists to make use of your knowledge and skills to ensure that our society develops in a positive direction. Contributions to technical as well as social innovations are just as important as an open and fact-based culture of discussion.” He added that Forschungszentrum Jülich is fully aware of its responsibility towards the Rhineland region, which is undergoing a process of structural change, and of the necessity to contribute to the transformation of this former coal-mining region through Jülich’s expertise in the fields of information, energy, and bioeconomy.

Forschungszentrum Jülich has been awarding the distinction since 2009. It is based on an outstanding doctoral thesis, the main parts of which were written at Jülich, combined with excellent achievements during the subsequent postdoc phase of up to two years. This year’s winners conduct their research in the fields of soft matter and nanoelectronics.
