Abstract:

Human red blood cells are one of the most simple cells in the whole body, and are therefore very popular for experimental research and modeling. Recent studies have shown that the motion of red blood cell membrane is not purely thermal, but affected by active processes inside the cell.

In our study, membrane fluctuations are quantitatively described under different conditions by computer simulations using dissipative particle dynamics model. Effect of membrane elastic properties on the fluctuations along with their spectral characteristics are first investigated for a passive system. Then, different degrees of cell activity are analyzed and distinctive features of the activity will be discussed.
