Supercomputing, Bioeconomy, and Structural Change

Minister Pfeiffer-Poensgen learns all about projects at Forschungszentrum Jülich

Jülich, 22 March 2019 – Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, Minister of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, visited Forschungszentrum Jülich on Friday to learn about Jülich’s current projects in the fields of information, energy, and bioeconomy. At the Jülich Supercomputing Centre, the minister was impressed by the performance of Jülich’s new flagship supercomputer, JUWELS. Another issue that was addressed during the minister’s visit was the pending structural change in the Rhineland. Forschungszentrum Jülich is undertaking a number of concrete projects to help shape this change, which represents a key societal challenge not only for the lignite region in the Rhineland but also for North Rhine-Westphalia as a whole.
