China Becomes Global Ozone Hot Spot

Jülich, 24 August 2018 – A new study conducted by Chinese, American, and Jülich scientists shows that China has become a global ozone hot spot. In contrast to the generally decreasing ozone levels in the USA and Europe, the data available from China show clear ozone increases since the 1990s. The researchers used the latest ozone measurements from the Chinese monitoring network and combined them with the global database of the Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report (TOAR) for other industrial regions. A comparative analysis of the past five years shows that the surface ozone levels are increasing.
