Jülich, 20 February 2018 – An international team of scientists has clarified the mechanisms of one form of high blood pressure. Jülich researchers showed for the first time how a certain protein uses the difference between the chloride concentrations inside and outside cells to regulate blood pressure. “Biological information processing not only takes place in nerve cells and in the brain, but in every cell of our bodies,” explains Prof. Christoph Fahlke from Jülich’s Institute of Complex Systems. “There is a multitude of mechanisms with which cells can detect and process external signals.”
