Fuel Cells Supply Emergency Power for Police’s Digital Radio System

Jülich, 30 November 2016 – Scientists from the Jülich Institute of Energy and Climate Research and the police in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) have successfully completed a joint project. Their collaboration focused on securing the emergency power supply of the police’s digital radio system in the region using a module consisting of direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). Over the course of a nine-month test phase, the module was able to secure emergency power operation for the required period of 72 hours.
