Improved Diagnostics for Compression of the Spinal Cord

Jülich, 7 September 2011 – An interdisciplinary team of scientists from St Vinzenz Hospital in Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf University Hospital and Forschungszentrum Jülich have succeeded in developing an improved diagnostic method with respect to narrowing of the bony spinal canal in the cervical region of the spine. A metabolic examination of the spinal cord by means of positron emission tomography (PET) allows them to predict whether an operation will relieve the clinical symptoms.
