FET-PET Provides Useful Information for Treating Brain Metastases

Jülich, 8 October – New cancer treatments such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy are very promising. The treatments can be used to fight not just the primary tumour, but also metastases in other organs – in particular the brain. Positron emission tomography (PET) with radioactively labelled amino acids can provide useful additional information for assessing the chances of a treatment being successful in such cases. This has been shown in a study recently released in the renowned Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
