Over 6,000 Brain Tumour Patients Examined with FET-PET

Jülich, 15 August 2019 – The number of patients who have been examined at Forschungszentrum Jülich using the FET-PET technique rose to over 6,000 in August 2019.

FET is an abbreviation for the amino acid 18F-fluoroethyl tyrosine, which is used as a radiotracer in positron emission tomography (PET). FET was first synthesized by Jülich nuclear chemists in the nineties; since then, it has been proven to work exceptionally well as a tracer for PET diagnostics for brain tumours. The technique is particularly useful for detecting brain tumour size, identifying new tumours, and determining the effectiveness of a particular treatment method.
