Chemical Reaction Under the Magnifying Glass

Researchers from Jülich and Graz illuminate reaction of graphene fabrication

Jülich/Graz, 18 July 2019 – Ten years ago, researchers from Jülich and Graz developed a novel method which made it possible to image the electron orbitals in molecules. The method has now been advanced so far that it can be used to image the chemical reaction on a copper surface, including all intermediates.

The end product of this reaction is graphene. The findings are relevant for the development of ultrathin solar cells and chemical sensors, for example, and have been published in the renowned journal Nature Communications.
